Minimally Invasive Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery
San Francisco Surgical Medical Group offers minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgery for a broad range of conditions including gallbladder disease, hernia repair and thyroid and parathyroid conditions. This surgery is performed using a laparoscope, thus the name “laparoscopic surgery”. In the procedure, surgeons typically make several tiny incisions, insert a lighted tube and video camera through the opening, performing the operation using miniaturized surgical instruments. A camera then transmits images of the operative field back to a computer monitor, guiding the surgeons as they manipulate the instruments. These surgeries are highly complex and requires extensive training and experience. The advantages of laparoscopic surgery, as opposed to a traditional open procedures, include:
- Smaller incisions and less scarring
- Significantly reduced post-operative pain
- Reduced risk of Infection
- Shorter hospital stays
- More rapid return to work and normal activities
